Watched this again a home. I really enjoy this film and is so worth watching a second time.

The Client (**) In School

Here are some observations I had about the film The Client. I first would note that the director Joel Schumacher had made many movies over the years. I think his body of the work has gotten better over the years. Is early movies such as Flatliners, St Elmo’s Fire and Lost Boys are early examples of his work which I din’t care musch for. Later in his career he took many risks with films like Falling Down, 8mm, Flawless, Tigerland, Veronica Guerin, and Phone Booth which are pretty good films. These films were small in nature compared to The Client, A Time to Kill, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin and The Phantom of the Opera which were more big budget films with A list actors. I feel he works better in the smaller films than the big budget films.

The Client if I were to look at this movie historically when in came out in 1994. It was a film that came out right after the success of The Firm and The Pelican Brief. So the pressure to make The Client was definitely on the filmmakers mind. John Grisham was a hot writer at the time and his movies were hot items in Hollywood. Joel having some marginally success in film was hired to do the movie. He hired Akiva Goldsmith a first time writer to write the screenplay for the film a hard task for such a hot item in Hollywood. Akiva has later moved on to write other big budget films based of books. For a first time screenwriter I feel he did a good job of taking a very famous book and translating it to the screen without getting bogged down with all the technical jargon that Grisham tends to use. I prefer more technical Jargon than the generic approach, but for the Hollywood this is fine for this film.

The cast of the movie seemed to all be perfectly cast as there parts in the film. Sometime I feel the dialogue is a little too strong to point out the characteristics of the characters from the film so it feels a little unnecessary for them to do this. For example how the state that Reggie had a drink problem or how poor the family is, how the cop fools the kid with the coke can.

When I first saw this movie in 1994 I really liked the opening scene in its creepiness of the suicide and how socking it was. Now fourteen years later I don’t feel that creepiness. I still like the music, by the brilliant Howard Shore, and the performance of Walter Olkewicz hold the mood, but I could help focusing on the performance of the two kids which I feel don’t hold up as much as I remember them. I do like the blocking and the POV shots during this sequence that helps with the tone. Other than the opening scene I feel the movie is somewhat generic in its cinematic approach to a thriller. Another thing that doesn’t hold up is the how dated the film is now. I think it is fine for the film, but having lived in the nineties I can’t help but cringe at the hair and wardrobe.

I would like to note about all the actors in the film that now has very successful television shows. So you can see how much the ensemble cast of the film had an effect on their future endeavors. Many of their performance such as Dan Castellanta, AKA Homer Simpson, as the photographer, Barry the Blade, Anthony LaPaglia and Dianne Sway Mary Louise Parker stand out to me to be pretty memorable. With all the cast members I think this film is worth watching to see all the great bits by the secondary cast.

I'm in a real P T Anderson mood so i watched it today. I haven't it seen it in years so i was a thrill to re watch this movie. My favorite highlights are the Transformers song and the visit to Alferd Molina's house.

It was ok, but not great. I enjoyed the movie and the themes, but i didn't enjoy the dialogue in the first third of the film and the two Belle and Sebastian songs was one too many. I like Ellen Page, but feel her performance in Hard Candy was much better.

I saw the second Dail Short film finally. I t was a calaberation between Walt Disney and Dail in the 1940's and finally finished a few years ago. It is worth the watch, but i find Un Chien Andalou is much better.

Sweeny Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street (****) In Theatres

I really liked this film. The music was surprisley pleasant and ad i really didn't no much about the story so i think that helped me enjoy the film. So go check it out. It is easily the best Burton film since Ed Wood.

Zodiac (*** 3/4) HD-DVD

Great Movie and an amazing HD-DVD disc. The video quality is once again amazing and the special features are incredible. The feature length documentary on the real case is one of the best features i've ever seen a movie have included in a special edition. Buy this disc on DVD or HD-DVD now you wouldn't be disappointed.

3:10 to Yuma (****) Blu-Ray

I got this today on Blu-ray and it is one of the best Blu-rays in this short year thus far. There are some great special features, also profile 1.1 disc, and the movies sound and video quality are top tier quality. I highly recommend this disc and film.

The Bucket List (**) DVD

The movie is too short. only 90 mins, and tries to hard to be both a comedy and a drama. Sure Morgan Freeman and Jack are good , but they are both obviously taking a paycheck here. I would not recommend this movie to anyone.

My Top Ten Favorite Movies of the Year 2007 (Now top 20)

#1- No Country for Old Men

( After 5 times watching this film I realized this may be the Coen Bros best film. I love so many scenes in this film and the rewatchablity is so strong, more so than their other films I believe)

#2- Hot Fuzz

(I have watched this movie so many times i cant keep count. I am in love with Simon Pegg and Edger Wright. After watching their TV show Spaced and this film i cannot wait to see what they will do next. I have watched the HD DVD and all 18 hours of special features and still wanted more.)

#3- The Simpsons Movie / Futurama: Bender's Big Score

(Once again i have watched both films a bunch of times and they seem to get better and better after each viewing. I kinda like Bender's Big score a bit better than the Simpsons, but i have waited many years for the movie and was extremely satisfied.)

#4- 3:10 To Yuma

(God one of the best westerns this year and maybe ever. I love Bloody westerns and it has two of my favorite actors in it so whats not to love)

#5- There Will Be Blood

(This is a movie i cannot wait to watch another 10 times. PTA is becoming such a interesting director and i await his next film. The dude is only 37 and in my opioin has made two or three or even four masterpieces already)

#6- Eastern Promises

(Silly me i left tis off my initial list of Top ten. I forgot about this film last night. I watched this twice and enjoyed David Cronenberg's gangster film. Viggo fight in the bathroom is totally amazing)

#7- Black Snake Moan

(I love this film, it has some great moments in it. It one of the movies you cannot believe got made, but it did. For the directors second effort after the great Hustle and Flow i expect great thing from him in the years to come.)

#8- Rescue Dawn

(Werner Herzog's remake of his own film with one of the great actors Christian Bale. Love the documentary and this movie is a great companion piece to his earlier film. I think you need to watch both films to appreciate this movie , but overall i'm glad Herzog remade this film again)

#9-Ratatouille

(Good this movie gets better every time you watch it. It is easily the best animated effort this year. God bless Pikar for having the balls to make this film. Pikar i hope will allow Brad Bird to do another film very soon)

#10-Zodiac

(I really liked this film. Though not as good as Fincher's other films I still think it is a worthy addition to his "Thriller films." I cannot wait to get the director cut HD-DVD with all the special features)

I think if English Patient and Cold Mountian didn't exist i would enjoy this film more. Overall worth the watch if you enjoy romantic epics. I liked the score alot. Also there is one long shot in the middle of the film which was really nice, but seem out of place from this film.

There Will Be Blood (****) In Theatres

What a performance by Daniel Day Lewis. It is one of the best you ever see an actor have. I love the style of the film. It is a pure mixture of Terrence Malick and Citizen Kane with a bit of the Gangster films thrown throughout it. The ending is something i 'm sure people will discuss for many years. I believe the movie 10 years from now will be seen as a classic.

The video quality was pretty good, but i had some problems with audio syncing and buzzing. I updated the firmware which took a while, but it fixed the problem nd everything worked great. The movie was pretty bad. I excepted a gayier movie , but Adam Sandler and Kevin James chose to keep the material relevantly tame. I would not recommend this movie to anyone, but if there is one thing it has is a nice scene with Jessica beil in her underpants.

This is there western film and boy did they nail it out of the park. I love the different guns in the film that are western staples. I really enjoyed how Sugar treated his wound and how the bounty hunters act throughout the film. This is my favorite movie of the year and maybe my favorite Coen Bros film.

Wow!!! Not a bad sequel to a forgettable movie 28 days later. Maybe I need to watch the first one again, but I much prefer this film over the original. I like the gore and the acting was pretty cool. Ridley Scott is an interesting director and this is an interesting movie. It is such a mixture of many gangster films. Ridley has done so many different genres and this really does not feel like he made this. Which i think is a good thing. I woke up early this morning and stumbled on the documentary. I kind of wanted to see it. Blockbuster always has a copy for like $2, but I never bought it. I thought the movie was cute, but seemed childish and very amateur. I couldn't make anything better, but i can't get Super Size me out of head when i watched it. If Super Size didn't exist it think I would apperate the style a little more. There were some cute ideas like faking a press pass or buy and camera and returning it 30 days later. Brian seems like the dorky film geek kid i don't want to work in Hollywood. Sure i love Spielberg and such, but he was seemed to stereotypical, maybe for the movie I’m not sure. Overall for $2 or a early morning movie it was ok entertainment.

Also, I forgot the credence’s Midnight special song book ending the film. I'm still humming it. The Blu ray looks great not a five star video transfer but pretty well preserved for a catalog title. Warner bros is great about putting out good special edition, but this not the case. The only supplement was just a really crappy trailer transfer. Excellent film. I absolutely love the ending of this film. Russell Crowe and Christian Bale are again terrific as usual. Russell has elements of his character from Quick and the Dead which I thought was interesting. If I would complain about this film in any way was the first act was a little strange in pacing and development. It took a little bit to understand how the film was going to play out. Go see this or download this film immediately of the year’s bests. Also the blood and violence was also terrific.

I think i like this movie more than Tombstone, but i would rather watch Tombstone again because it is much shorter. Many people dislike this film given the fact that is came out 6 months after Tombstone. I think thy both work well together. Dennis Quaid's and Val Kilmers Doc Holiday’s are both unique and both actors are playing one of the best roles. Kevin Costner is ok as Wyatt. I prefer Henry Fonda and Kurt over his performance. Overall a good film that maybe could be trim just a bit to make it better.

I waited to watch this film until the 2 disc Blu ray came out, but Fucking Paramount decided to be cocksuckers so I watched the DVD instead. I really enjoyed this movie. People complain about the length, I wanted it to be longer. People didn't like the unevenness of the movie. Gore in the beginning nothing towards the end etc. I thought these were great things. Jake Gyllenhaal in the basement of the projectionist was really haunting. David Fincher has another fine film under his belt. It's amazing how many different types of thrillers he has made. I can't wait till the 2 disc director's cut DVDs they look awesome. I might even buy an HD DVD player for editions like that if they keep it up, but I can't support a dying format.

What can i say about a show that I've seen all 400 episodes at least twice and now a movie finally appears this year. The movie was meant for the fans that ditched the show years ago(those fucking idiots the show has never been better in my option). The movie, went back to the roots of the early Simpson days. Like season 2-6. I'm glad they writers did this. They made a movie that can stand the test of time, and not feel old after a decade or two. The South Park movie may be funnier, but this film had heart and a sense of a familiarity that I love in the show. My only compliant is I wish there were more pop culture type references and it be longer . But I'm somewhat glad they steered away from them. (I don't want Family Guy approach) I really think this movie is perfect and was really happy after watching it that it did not disappoint. This will end up being my favorite film of the year, I believe.
Can you imagine the numbers that this movie will make this weekend, and all of the fans that ditched the show over the years come crawling back to it next season! This show may last another 10 years if they do. This is what i wish for. 400 is a lot of time spend with the Simpsons, but my hope it still stays sharp for many years to come and reach 500 or even 730 episodes so we can have at least two years worth or Simpsons to watch. So go see it Many Many Many times. Bart's Penis.... The theory still stands!

Werner Herzog's Remake of his own Documentary Little Dieter Needs to Fly.
Christian Bale(who is one of my favorite actors) was really effective in the role, but i enjoyed Jeremy Davis performance the most. The film has many great moments, i liked the dog, but if your looking for the better of the two films the doc blows it away. The last ten mins of the movie i hated, and the fact that the real life Dieter has a German accent and Bale didn't was a little disappointing.. I watched almost all of Herzog movies all 55 of them last year and this one is nowhere near his greatest work(some of my personal favorite Aguiree the Wrath of God, My Best Fiend, and Strosek), but it still brilliant and I'm glad he did the feature film and didn't get killed by another director. Go see this movie. Let me know what you think. And if you have seen Andersonville my favorite war Prison movie let me know what you think of that also.

I enjoyed this film, but it seems like every teen horror film that comes out. Not to mention the whole Rear Window, simpsons episodeness of the film. Shia is good again, and I thought the first hour of him doing nothing around the house was pretty amusing. The movie felt apart during the end sequence, but it had is moments. I liked the creepy pit in the basement. Overall worth watching for the cheap thrill and the sexy next door neighbor.

TMC had a Documentary on Spielberg the other night directed written and produced by Richard Schiekel. It featured just Spielberg talking about his films with film clips etc.. No narration and on other outside interview etc. I highly recommend this doc to any Spielberg fan. Spielberg answered many question and themes shown throughout his films. My favorite scene was him telling the audience how the ending of A.I. was Kubrick and not his, and he gets alot a heat from it. Spielberg is one of the greatest filmmaker alive and my personal favorite. I only wish during the Documentary that he apologized for Lost World.

I really enjoyed this dark chapter in Harry life. The style felt fresh along with the music and characters but not enough to make it feel too different. The cast is huge in this film, and they all get some decent screen time. Gary Oldman is the man, and one of my favorite actors so that is added plus. There is plenty of really fun moments and cool montages throughout the film. I especially like the one with Azkaban prison. The dark feel of the first 30 mins was really creepy and nice to see they didn't ruin it with some kiddy lines and slap stick. There was only one bad line in the film. The line that was "you gotta hand it to Dumbeldore he goes out in style" was pretty poor. I Also enjoyed, Harry teaching defense sequences. The battle at the end was I can't wait to watch in IMAX 3D. I love the sugar coated ending, when we the audience's know there is more battles to be fought. Overall this is my second favorite Potter. Number three is my favorite. This is easily one of the best movies of the summer. I can't wait until next fall when Half Blood Prince comes out and not upset that David Yates is directing it. What did you think?

I've been wanting to watch this film for the last 10 years, Sadly it has not been available until two weeks ago when it arrived on a glorious Criterion two disc DVD. Malcolm McDowell pre Clockwork Orange (Which of course is my favorite movie) is brilliant. The transfer on this almost 40 year old film is one of the best i have ever seen. The movies themes are very interesting to watch based on the numerous school shooting that have occurred over the last few years. This movie deals with motif a little better than Gus Van Sant's Elephant, even though the movie are very different i can not help see the similarities in the two films. Do yourself a favor and check out Malcolm in this film. This film, Clockwork, and Caligula are classic McDowell in great form as usual. Next up for me is maybe try to finally watch Time after Time another film that has been on my list for some time. Let's hope Criterion puts out the two sequels O Lucky Man! and Britannia Hospital so i don't have to wait another 10 years to finish the trilogy.

I liked the first 30 mins and the last 30 mins. Shia was good and he will make a good Indiana Jones character i think other than that i really didn't care much about this film. There was a few wow shots, but nothing groundbreaking.
The B story was horrible with Anthony Anderson it was so pointless. Frenzy was stupid.
There is a fucking Mountain Dew Transformer.....
The transformers pee.. I just don't get it.
Why did hugo weaving due the voice of Meagtron they just added effects to it? Seems pointless not to use Frank Welker.
I can't wait for Transformers 2 maybe without the character development and such it will have a better story. Get rid of the humans and focus on the robots.

I still think Monsters Inc. is Pixar's Masterpiece. I sure people will argue with that, but this movie is very well done. It seems like it needs a second viewing to sink in all the cartoon details and story elements. It's really an adult film. Like Iron Giant and Incredibles. Brad Bird really seems like he does what he wants and doesn't throwing any unnecessary kiddy elements. This is one of pixar's finest and a vast improvement over Cars which was pretty weak. Go see it right away you will not be disappointed.

Every few years I watch this gem. I decided to watch it again with the awesome commentary by Mr. Ebert. It is one of the best Commentary track on a DVD. This movie is excellent. It really makes the Matrix look like crap. If you haven't heard the track before buy the DVD ASAP. Also Ebert's tracks on Casablanca and Citizen Kane are also worth the listen.

I saw Good the bad and the Ugly a few years ago and loved it. The remastered dvd's of the other two films came out last week and i'm glad i waited to watch them. The picture on this one was great. The music I like a little more than the Good soundtrack. There are some great moments in this film Kinski is wonderful, but i only wish i could hear his original Italian. After another viewing of this film might make it my favorite of the dollars trilogy.
